The Lost Horses is a national awareness and advocacy campaign dedicated to ending the slaughter of American horses across U.S. borders.
Blending cinematic storytelling with legislative action, the campaign shines a light on the tens of thousands of American horses lost each year to the slaughter pipeline including former racehorses, show horses, lesson ponies, working horses, donkeys, and federally protected wild horses.
Through powerful PSA films, celebrity voices, grassroots advocacy, coalition-building, and direct engagement with lawmakers in Washington D.C., The Lost Horses has helped bring unprecedented national attention to an issue that has remained largely hidden from public view.
The campaign has featured the support of artists, actors, athletes, and public figures including Billie Eilish, Diane Lane, Jessica Springsteen, Zosia Mamet, Pom Klementieff, Atticus, America the Band, and the Compton Cowboys — all helping raise awareness through original films, poetry, music, and public advocacy on behalf of America’s horses.
The campaign works alongside leading organizations and industry partners, including the ASPCA, Animal Welfare Institute, and 1/ST, in support of federal legislation such as the SAFE Act aimed at permanently ending horse slaughter and the export of American horses for slaughter abroad.
LOST HORSES FLY-IN DAY WASHINGTON, D.C.
On March 26, 2026, The Wild Beauty Foundation organized the Lost Horses Fly-In Day on Capitol Hill — bringing together advocates, industry leaders, organizations, and supporters from across the country for a day of congressional meetings and public awareness surrounding the SAFE Act and the protection of America’s horses.
Throughout the day, participants met directly with Members of Congress and Senate offices to advocate for federal protections aimed at ending the horse slaughter pipeline. The effort culminated in a special screening and awareness event inside the Rayburn House Office Building, helping elevate the issue at the heart of Washington during a pivotal legislative moment.
The fly-in represented one of the most visible coordinated advocacy efforts yet surrounding horse slaughter legislation, and helped build bipartisan momentum for stronger federal protections for America’s equines.
ROBIN BELL PROJECTION INSTALLATION FOR LOST HORSES
In May 2026, The Lost Horses partnered with acclaimed projection artist Robin Bell for a large-scale public installation in the heart of Washington, D.C., designed to bring national attention to the ongoing horse slaughter crisis.
Timed alongside continued congressional advocacy efforts, the installation projected striking imagery and messaging connected to The Lost Horses campaign onto buildings in downtown Washington — transforming the city itself into a canvas for awareness and action.
The installation also featured the participation of Grammy Award-winning artist Billie Eilish, whose support helped amplify the campaign’s reach to millions across social media and national press.
Combining art, activism, music, and public space, the installation became a powerful visual statement calling for the protection of America’s horses and the passage of federal legislation to end the slaughter pipeline once and for all.

WILD BEAUTY IN CONGRESS
DATE: April 30th, 2024
The Wild Beauty Team returned to Washington D.C. on April 30th, along with Oscar-nominated actress Diane Lane. The goal of this trip was to educate Members of Congress about the plight of wild horses, and for signatures to H.R. 3656 – The Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act.
If passed, the Act would prohibit the use of aircraft in wild horses roundups. Namely, the cruel and antiquated use of helicopters which injures and kills wild horses every year.
In addition to meetings with over twenty Members of Congress and staff – WBF hosted a private event within the Capitol to further this agenda.
WBF is very proud to announce that numerous co-sponsors have been added to the bill since this visit. Time Magazine even did an article on our efforts, and the impact of WILD BEAUTY the film.
Please support the passage of H.R. 3656 by sending a message to your Members of Congress – you can do so in moments by using our microsite here! www.istandwithwildhorses.com
