KAI KRAUSE

Wild Beauty - Documentary Cinematographer

Originally from Heidelberg, Germany, Kai grew up on his father’s commercial sets, which made him decide his career path at the age of 8. Just a few years later, he enrolled at the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, where he obtained a diploma in cinematography.

Shortly after graduating from IAA, he moved to London, UK to attend the Metropolitan Film School at Ealing Studios, from which he received a BA with first-class honors in film and digital cinematography. Kai’s work became more diverse, ranging from music videos to narrative content and various commercials that played in festivals worldwide.

Kai moved back to California in 2013 to get his MFA in cinematography from the AFI Conservatory as the youngest student in AFI’s history. He graduated top of his class and went on to work as a freelance cinematographer in Los Angeles, CA. His film “Unremarkable” was lauded at festivals across the globe and Kai’s work was recognized with an ASC Award nomination for best cinematography. His commercial and music video clients include Chevrolet, Range Rover, Gatorade, Amazon, Celine Dion, Ozuna, and J. Balvin, among others.

Kai is currently living in Los Angeles, CA and is repped in the US by Michael Kirschner at APA, in Europe by Sasha Neuss at Froehlich Management, and in Africa/Asia by Mark Gilbert at AMLS.
